Draymond Jamal Green was born on March 4th, 1990 and is a native of Saginaw, Michigan. He was a star basketball player at his local high school, who averaged 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 blocks a game. His high school team recorded 27-1 and was ranked number 4 by the USA Today national high school rankings. Draymond went on to play college basketball with the Michigan State Spartans but initially was set to go to Kentucky. March 16th, 2012, Draymond recorded his third career triple double during the second round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament and joined legends Oscar Robertson and Ervin “Magic” Johnson as being the third player of the NCAA Tournament history to have two career triple doubles during a NCAA Tournament. During his 2008-2012 college career, he won numerous awards such as NABC National Player of the Year, Big Ten Player of the Year, and Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year, among others. Draymond ended his college career as one of the three players of Michigan State’s history with over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
Draymond was drafted during round two of the 2012 NBA Draft. He was the 35th overall pick and signed a three year, $2.6 million dollar contract with the Golden State Warriors. During his first NBA game, Draymond made one rebound and fouled someone, all in the one and only minute he actually played. He would eventually receive more time in the the coming games but started to struggle shooting the ball. He was only averaging twenty minutes of play time per game but he finally scored his first double figure score on December 21, 2012, he scored 11 points against the Charlotte Bobcats.
The following season, Green lost 20 pounds and showed an improvement with his three point shooting and also defensively. His coach, Mark Jackson, has called him a leader and a tremendous competitor. Draymond now averages 5.4 points, 1.6 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and plays 20.2 minutes per night.
